1 Nephi 7

1 Nefi VII fejezet 1.  And now I would like, if you all would know, that after my father Lehi finished the prophesying in relation to his seed, it came to pass, that the Lord again spoke towards him, saying that, that being it isn't in order that he, Lehi alone should bring his family with himself into the wilderness; but that his sons should take to wife daughters, that seed they should grow to the Lord in the promised land. 2.  And it came to pass that the Lord commanded to him, that I, Nephi, and my brothers should again return to the land of Jerusalem, and bring down Ishmael and his family into the wilderness. 3.  And it came to pass that I, Nephi with my brothers together I went again into the wilderness, that I should go up to Jerusalem. 4.  And it came to pass that we went up Ishmael's house towards, and kegyet we found in the presence of Ishmael's eyes, insomuch that we said to him the words of the Lord. 5.  And it came to pass that the Lord ...

1 Nefi VI fejezet 1. And now I, Nephi, don't give the genealogy of my fathers in my records in this part; and with a different occasion I wouldn't give that on these plates, which I write; because that already exists given in that record, which my father őrzött (Google translates this to Valet, but the word in the English scriptures is "kept."  I imagine that this wasn't translated as "tartotta" because I'm guessing that őrzött has some connotation of "which my father (kept safe/in good condition, kept/taken care of)."  That's just a guess though, I really have no idea why they wouldn't have used tartotta, because there is no indication in the English scriptures of what condition Lehi kept the scriptures in, just that he kept them.) ; so in this work I don't write down that. 2.  Because to me enough, if I say that amount, that being Joseph's descendants we are. 3. And that to me doesn't mean, that I should be par...

1 Nefi V fejezet 1. And it came to pass, after we came to the wilderness towards our father, behold, he was filled with joy, and our mother, Saria also exceedingly rejoiced, because already truthfully mourned because of us. 2. Because that she thought, that we were lost in the wilderness; and onto my father complained also, that modogatván to him, visions seeing person, saying: Behold you led us away off of the land of our inheritance, and already my sons are no more, and we are lost inside the wilderness. 3. And my mother towards like this speaking complained onto my father. 4. And it came to pass, my father spoke towards her, saying: I know that, that being visions seeing person I am; because if inside a vision I wouldn't have seen the things of God, then I wouldn't have recognized God's goodness, but I would have remained inside Jerusalem, and I would have been lost with my brethren. 5. But behold, elnyertem a promised land, which inside these things I rejoic...

1 Nefi IV fejezet 1. And it came to pass, I spoke towards my brothers, saying: We go up again into Jerusalem, and let us be faithful inside the keeping of the Lord's commandments, because behold He is more powerful beside the entire world, then why wouldn't He be more powerful beside Laban and beside his fifty, yea, or even beside his ten thousand? 2. For this reason we go up, let us be strong, like towards Moses; because he really spoke to the Red Sea waters, and those changed in the direction of two, and our fathers through it they came, out of slavery száraz talajon, and the armies of the Pharaoh they followed them, and megfulladtak the Red Sea waters in. 3. Now behold, you all know, that this is true; and that also you all know, that an angel spoke towards you all; how kételkedhettek therefore? We go up; the Lord is able to free us, like unto our fathers, and to destroy Laban, like unto the Egyptians. 4. Now when these words I said, they were angry, and further th...

1 Nefi III fejezet 1. And it came to pass, I Nephi, returned from the continued conversation with the Lord, towards my father's tent. 2. And it came to pass that, that being he spoke toward me, saying: Behold I dreamt a dream, inside which the Lord commanded to me, that you and your brothers should return into Jerusalem. 3. For behold, next to Laban there exists the record of the Jews, something my ancestors nemzedékrendje, and onto these plates they are vésve. 4. The Lord therefore commanded to me that, that being you and your brothers should go away towards the house of Laban, and you all should search for the records and bring them to here into the wilderness. 5. And now behold, your brothers murmer, saying, that is a hard thing, that I wish from them, but lám this I do not wish them, but this is the commandment of the Lord. 6. For this you should go my son, and the Lord will be with benevolence towards you, because you did not murmer. 7. And it came to pass that...

1 Nefi II fejezet 1. Now behold it came to pass the Lord spoke towards my father, yea, completely to him in a dream, and this He said to him; Blessed art thou Lehi, because of those things which you did; and because you were faithful and declared to this people those things which I commanded to you, behold onto that they strive to take away your life. 2. And it came to pass that, that being the Lord commanded to my father, completely towards him in a dream, that he should take his family and he should go away into the wilderness. 3. And it came to pass, he was obedient God's word iránt, therefore like that he did how the Lord commanded to him. 4. And it came to pass that he went away into the wilderness.  And otthagyta his house, and öröksége his land of, and his gold, and ezüstjét, and precious things, and he took none of it with him, except his family, and élelmiszert, and tents, and he went away into the wilderness. 5. And the határ mentén the bank of the Red Sea he...

Beginning

So on November 23rd, 2013 I started to translate the Book of Mormon from Hungarian into English as part of my language studies.  I decided to revisit this idea since I really want to keep up on my Hungarian.  I only did the first two chapters and part of the third way back then.  Since I am just starting another semester of my Master's degree I don't know how often I will get to translating, but I want to make it a goal.  I thought it might be interesting for people to read and have a taste of what it is like to read the Book of Mormon in Hungarian, though of course my translation might be a bit different than what other people might translate it as.  My goal in starting was also to learn words that I didn't already know, so there is a smattering of Hungarian in there, but hopefully by the end of the Book of Mormon there won't be any.  The only exceptions will be the Book names and "fejezet" which means "chapter."  Here is the first chapter: 1 Nefi...
