Beginning
So on November 23rd, 2013 I started to translate the Book of Mormon from Hungarian into English as part of my language studies. I decided to revisit this idea since I really want to keep up on my Hungarian. I only did the first two chapters and part of the third way back then. Since I am just starting another semester of my Master's degree I don't know how often I will get to translating, but I want to make it a goal. I thought it might be interesting for people to read and have a taste of what it is like to read the Book of Mormon in Hungarian, though of course my translation might be a bit different than what other people might translate it as. My goal in starting was also to learn words that I didn't already know, so there is a smattering of Hungarian in there, but hopefully by the end of the Book of Mormon there won't be any. The only exceptions will be the Book names and "fejezet" which means "chapter." Here is the first chapter:
1 Nefi
I fejezet
1. I Nephi, born from good parents, for this némileg my father caused me to be taught out in all of his knowledge; and on seeing many trials during my days, mindazonáltal on every day of my life experiencing the Lord's jóindulatát; yea, with great knowledge rendelkezvén, regarding God's goodness and mysteries, for this I prepare a record about the actions of my days.
2. Yea, in my father's language I prepare a record, which out of the Jew's knowledge and the Egyptian's language it stands.
3. And I know that, that being the record, that I prepare, is true, and with my own hands I prepare it, and that according to my knowledge I prepare it.
4. And it came to pass that, that being in the beginning of the first year of the reign of Zedekiah, King of Judah (and my father Lehi, dwelt in Jerusalem all the days of his life) and in this same time in the year many prophets came, prophesying to the people that, that being they need to repent, or He needs to destroy that great city Jerusalem.
5. Behold, my father, Lehi, félrevonulván he prayed to the Lord, yea, to Him with his entire heart, in the interest of the people.
6. And it came to pass, amint he prayed to the Lord, there appeared a fire-pillar, and established before him on a kősziklán; and he saw and heard much, and because of those things which he saw and heard, exceedingly remegett and reszketett.
7. And it came to pass that, that being he returned into his own house inside Jerusalem, and leroskadt onto his bed, being overcome by the Spirit and those things which he saw.
8. And from the Spirit, in this way being overcome elragadtatott in a vision, onto like that, that being he saw to open the heavens, and he recognized: God, he saw trónusán sitting, numberless angels seregétől being round about it who in this moment are singing and glorying their God.
9. And it came to pass that, that being he saw One out of the midst of heaven to stand under, and he saw that, that being His brightness felülmúlja the noonday sun.
10. And following Him twelve others he also saw, and their radiance meghaladta that of the stars égbolton.
11. And they came down and they departed the Earth színén, and the first came and stood before my father, and gave to him a book, and felszólította that, that being he should read.
12. And it came to pass that, that being as soon as he read eltelt with the Spirit of the Lord.
13. And he read saying: Oh no! Oh no to Jerusalem, because I saw utálatosságaidat! Indeed, and many things my father read onto Jerusalem vonatkozóan - that, that being they will destroy, and to that lakosságat is; many through the sword vesznek el, and a lot fogolyként hurcolnak into Babylon.
14. And it came to pass that, that being after my father read and saw many great and wonderful things, towards the Lord kiáltott many things, similar to these: Great and wonderful are Thou works, O Lord, Almighty God! Thy throne is high in the heavens, and thine power, and goodwill, and mercy onto every inhabitent of the Earth kiterjed, and with that Thou art merciful because Thou dost not allow those to perish who come unto Thee.
15. And toward this type was the speech of my father, when he gloried his God, because his soul rejoiced, and his entire heart megtelt all those things következtében which he saw, yea, which the Lord showed to him.
16. And now I, Nephi do not prepare an entire beszámolót about those things which my father already wrote. Ugyanis he wrote many things that in visions and in dreams he saw, that to his children he prophesied and spoke about, about which I do not prepare an entire account.
17 But I prepare an account about the actions of my days. Behold, I prepare a kivonatot out of the record of my father, on plates, which with my own hands I prepared; therefore after I abridged my father's record, at that time I prepare an account about my own life.
18. For this I would like, if you all should know that, that being after the Lord showed like that many wonderful things to my father, Lehi, yea, relevant onto the destruction of Jerusalem, behold, he went in the midst of the people, and started to prophesy and kijelentéseket to do to them every relevant thing which he saw and heard.
19. And it came to pass the Jews csúfol űztek out of it, because of those things, about which he did testify to them, about their wickedness and their disgustingness and he did bear testimony that those things which he saw and heard, and those things also which in the book he read clearly declare the coming of a Messiah, and Redeemer of the world.
20. And when they heard these things they got angry onto him, yea, in the same way like onto the old prophets, who they chased out and megköveztek and killed; and to him also onto his life törtek that they should take it away. But behold I Nephi will show you all that, that being the gyengéd mercifulness of the Lord covering all of those who because of their faith kiválasztott, that He should make them become powerful; végül giving power to them onto freedom.
