III fejezet

1. And it came to pass, I Nephi, returned from the continued conversation with the Lord, towards my father's tent.

2. And it came to pass that, that being he spoke toward me, saying: Behold I dreamt a dream, inside which the Lord commanded to me, that you and your brothers should return into Jerusalem.

3. For behold, next to Laban there exists the record of the Jews, something my ancestors nemzedékrendje, and onto these plates they are vésve.

4. The Lord therefore commanded to me that, that being you and your brothers should go away towards the house of Laban, and you all should search for the records and bring them to here into the wilderness.

5. And now behold, your brothers murmer, saying, that is a hard thing, that I wish from them, but lám this I do not wish them, but this is the commandment of the Lord.

6. For this you should go my son, and the Lord will be with benevolence towards you, because you did not murmer.

7. And it came to pass that I, Nephi said this to my father: I go and I do those things which the Lord commanded, because I know the Lord does not give commandments to the children of men, just at that time, when a way He prepared onto their behalf, végrehajthassák that thing that He commands to them.

8. And it came to pass, when my father heard these words, he was exceedingly delighted, because he knew the Lord blessed me.

9. And I, Nephi, and my brothers, to the road we left inside the wilderness with our tents to go up onto the land of Jerusalem.

10. And it came to pass when we went up onto the land of Jerusalem, I and my brothers counseled with each other.

11. And sorsot vetettünk who among us would go into Laban's house.  And it came to pass that the lot fell onto Laman; and Laman went into Laban's house, and spoke with him, as soon as he sat in his house.

12. And he asked from Laban the records, which onto the plates of brass were engraven, which contained the generations of my father.

13. And behold, it came to pass that, that being Laban was furious, and cast him out before the floor, and did not stop that birtokába should come the records.  This he said therefore to him: Behold, you are a robber, and I will kill you!

14. But Laman fled from him, and said to us those things which Laban did.  And we exceedingly became sad, and my brothers were already those who would return to my father in the wilderness.

15. But behold, I said this to them: As the Lord liveth and as we live, until then we will not go down towards our father into the wilderness, up to the point that we have not accomplished the thing which the Lord commanded to us.

16. We should be therefore faithful in the keeping of the Lord's commandments; we should go down to our father's land of inheritance, for behold, he left there gold and silver, and every kind of treasure.  And he did all of this because of the commandments of the Lord.

17. Because He knew Jerusalem needs to be destroyed because of the wickedness of the people.

18. For behold, they rejected the words of the prophets.  If therefore my father there would live on that land, after He commanded to him that, that being he should flee away off of the land, behold he would also be lost.  It was needed, therefore, that he should flee off of that land.

19. And behold, according to the wisdom of God they should obtain these records so that our fathers' language megőrizhessük for their children's sake.

20. And for that also, that we should preserve to them the words, which out of every holy prophets' mouth elhangzottak, which through God's Spirit and power They gave to them, from the time that the world began all the way up until now.

21. And it came to pass that, that being with this kind of speech I won my brethren that they should be faithful inside the keeping of God's commandments.

22. And it came to pass that, that being we went down to the land of our inheritance and gathered together our gold and our silver and our precious things.

23. And after we gathered together all of these things, again we went up towards the house of Laban.

24. And it came to pass we went in towards Laban and we asked that he give to us the records, which onto plates are engraven, for which we would give to him our gold, and our silver, and all of our precious things.

25. And it came to pass, when Laban saw vagyonunkat, and that it was exceedingly great, so great were his desires upon it that he chased us out, and sent his servants that they should kill us, that he should gain possession of our wealth.

26. And it came to pass, that we fled before the servants of Laban, and they forced us ourselves behind to leave our wealth, and that into the hand of Laban it ended up.

27. And it came to pass, into the wilderness we fled, and the servants of Laban didn't értek us utol, and we hid inside a rock(üreg).

28.  And it came to pass, Laman angry was onto me, and onto my father also; and Lemuel as well, because he listened onto Laman's words.  Laman and Lemuel therefore many hard words spoke towards us, towards their younger brothers, and megütöttek us, méghozzá with a rod.

29. And it came to pass, that, that being as soon as with a rod they struck us, behold, an angel belonging to the Lord came and stood completely before us, and spoke towards us, saying: Why do you hit with a rod your younger brothers? Do you not know that, that being the Lord him has chosen to rule over you; and that because of your wickedness has done this? Behold, again go up into Jerusalem, and the Lord into your hands will give Laban.

30.  And after the angel spoke to us, the angel departed.

31. And after the angel departed, Laman and Lemuel again zúgolódni began to, saying: How is that possible, that the Lord into our hand will give Laban? Behold, powerful person is he, fifty he can command, fifty he can kill; then, well, why not us?
